Lizzie Johnson
Williams is known as the Texas Cattle Queen. She was an Austin school
teacher who became a successful business women in the historic Texas
cattle industry. She kept books for early cattle drives, wrote
articles for the popular Frank Leslie’s Magazine, invested in land and
cattle, and became a Texas legend. She had her own cattle brand and
owned vast cattle ranches throughout Texas. Lizzie was the only woman
in Texas history to accompany her own herd of Texas longhorns up the
Chisolm Trail.
